Hi, my name is Shannon. I teach 5th grade, and I hope to learn how to better integrate technology into my classroom.

Reflections

Although many Internet resources were presented during the class, the two that I will integrate into my curriculum are the social bookmarks and the Thinkature website. Due to poor test scores, our 5th grade team has elected to put a strong emphasis on science this year. Both social bookmarks and Thinkature can help us with this task.

In my ikeep bookmarks link below, I have searched for science related websites that help make some abstract concepts concrete through completing interactive activities. There are two folders with information from each content area (Earth Science, Life Science, etc). I have also included a folder containing the state standards. This will provide parents and students with the information they need to successfully master the science standards.

In addition to the social bookmarks, I can use the Thinkature website to create KWL charts for my students. Instead of standing in front of a piece of butcher paper and writing down students' answers, the students can work from the computers in our classroom and the computer lab next door to create a more meaningful KWL chart. I anticipate that I would get more responses from the students who are not confident enough to share their understanding in front of the other students. More importantly, they do not need to wait for me to pull the chart down off the wall to add comments under what they want to learn and what they have learned. This site can help the students share prior knowledge and experiences, which will, hopefully, increase their understanding of the science content we are covering.
